The Federal Skilled Trades Program is for people who want to become permanent residents based on being qualified in a skilled trade. Canada choose skilled immigrants as permanent residents based on their ability to settle in Canada and take part in Canadian economy. As of January 2015, the Government of Canada implemented the Express Entry Immigration system to select eligible candidate.

Eligibility Requirements

In order to qualify,Federal Skilled Trades applicants must:

  • Have an offer of full time employment from for a total period of atleast one year from a Canadian employers OR a Certificate of Qualification from a provincial or territorial body.
  • Provide proof of basic language proficiency from a designated language testing organization, demonstrating that the applicant meets the minimum threshold set by the Minister—Canadian Level Benchmark (CLB) 5 for speaking and listening, CLB 4 for reading and writing.
  • Have obtained 24 months of qualified work experience in the skilled trade in the last five year.
  • Be able to demonstrate the skills and experience and that they have performed the essential duties of the occupation.
